With the United States no longer minting new pennies, many retailers are having trouble obtaining sufficient pennies to provide change and are rounding cash transactions to the nearest available denomination (typically $0.05). To support this change, Atrex includes a Cash Rounding feature that ensures cash-only transactions are handled accurately and consistently.

How to Enable Cash Rounding

From the main window, select "Options - Company Information / Customization - Company Information and Settings".

Select the Defaults tab.

Locate the Round Cash option.

Set the drop-down value to Rounded and then choose the rounding increment you want to apply (for example, $0.05).

Click the OK button to save your changes.

Once enabled, the setting takes effect immediately for new cash transactions.

When Cash Rounding Applies

Cash rounding is only applied when all of the following are true:

Cash rounding is enabled in Company Settings

The transaction is paid entirely in cash

The transaction total includes a value that requires rounding based on your selected increment

Applies to Atrex 14+

Reading and writing database information can be slow, especially if you have a large database and/or multiple users hitting the data at the same time. It's rare that the information that you want to retrieve from a database is stored sequentially. As a result, the hard drive has to go find the information that you requested.

Rotational drives (HDD) have to physically move the heads to different positions over the drive surface in order to access the data, and they also have to wait for the desired information to rotate around underneath the heads. The time required to retrieve any specific piece of information from a modern rotational drive is about 10ms. While a hundredth of a second doesn't sound like much, it adds up very quickly when you have to do thousands of reads and writes from different places on the drive.

SSDs don't have any physically moving parts, so it doesn't have to wait for the heads to move or the data to rotate under the heads. While the access time varies between SSD manufacturers, a 0.1ms average access time or better is quite common with newer SSD drives.

Now for a little math. If your operation requires 100,000 read/write operations throughout the average day, that comes out to about 16 minutes of time waiting for the data to be accessed on a HDD with a 10ms average access time. Those same operations on a SSD with a 0.1ms average access time is less than a minute. 15 minutes of wasted time every day is not insignificant.

Is it time for a SSD? The answer to this is a bit subjective, but it's not a difficult question to answer. If you have a rotational HDD and the data access is sluggish enough that it is affecting the efficiency of your operation, then moving to a SSD can save you significant time and money. Back to the math. If you lose 15 minutes of productivity a day from the wait time of your HDD and your average hourly wage for your employees is $15, your HDD is costing you $3.75 a day in employee time. With the cost of 500GB SSD drives being under $100, it doesn't take much in time savings to more than pay for the upgrade.

Keep in mind that access time is only one portion of the time it takes to read and write data from the database, so your mileage may vary depending on your environment. But it's pretty clear that a SSD drive can make a significant difference in performance with a minimal investment in some new hardware.

This can occur when someone has turned on the increment scan function in Atrex, which causes Atrex to no longer prompt for item quantity. To turn this off, do the following:

Start a sales transaction such as an invoice, order, or quote.

Click cancel at the "Stock Code Entry" window.

Right click on the white item grid.

On the popup menu, click on "Increment Scan" to uncheck the option.

Click Cancel and cancel out of the invoice.

Inventory items appear on the reorder report based upon a simple set of rules.

The available quantity for the item, adjusted to take into consideration quantities already on order, must be less than the specified minimum quantity for the item. The calculation for this is (OnHand - Allocated + OnOrder - OnRma) < Minimum').

The item must not be a container.

The item must not be Non-Depleting.

The item must not be Discontinued.

If any of the above conditions are not met, the item will not be included on the inventory reorder report.

If you suspect that an item should be on the inventory reorder report, but is not, here are steps to determine why the item is not on the reorder report

Run the batch processing with the validation options selected and then re-run the inventory reorder report. Information about the calculated values being out of sync is available at http://support.1000years.com/kb/a26/incorrect-unexpected-allocated-on-order-rma-quantities_.aspx

Edit the inventory item and verify that the item is not a container, and that the Non-Depleting and Discontinued flags are not checked.

Open the stock code selection window and highlight the item in question. The bottom section of the window will contain the Available quantity (OnHand - Allocated - OnRma) and the On-Order quantity. Add the Available and On-Order quantities together to get your adjusted available quantity. That should be less than the minimum quantity specified on the stock code information window.

If you have verified all of the items above and are still not seeing items that you expect on the inventory reorder report, please contact our support department.
