Automated work flow - Text Message to Customer

Has anyone ever done this with Atrex..?
 
When a Sales Order is closed or Invoice Generated the system would send (somehow) an /Textto the Customer (if number provided is a cell) letting them know their Order/Part/Vehicle is ready?
 
Any suggestions on how or ideas on where to start?

At this point there isn't anything in place to handle this, but as we have had a request for this in the past, we might look into hooking into a SMS service to provide for something like this.

Instead of a text message it would also be nice to send an email. Currently we are manually sending an email and this gets tedious. It would be nice to have a template we could send that is customizable and would have updates such as diagnoistics are completed continuing with the work, work in progress and ready for pickup.

we have created something like that..
basically we upload the required data every 10 minutes to our webserver. where it checks the conditions we have preset, .. we have a scripted developped and connects to TWILIO API . We do this for our Service Orders. sends customer sms telling them everytime the STATUS changes. however this setup can get pricey.. we spent about $3K developing this, also currently paying abour $30-$40 for sms .. we get charged for EACH sms sent out..

terry, there is an android app called "mySMS" you install this on an andoid phone, then install their desktop app, you can send sms via your desktop.. the desktop app just syncs the sms on the phone via that android app.. Maybe you guys can create similiar app for atrex.

have atrex connect to an APP that's installed on Andoid phone and uses that phone to send sms. that way we only have for a phone number with unlimited txt. (cheap) .. we uses a sms API, we get charged for every sms.. it can get pricey if there is high volume.

We're actively in the process of looking at some tools that would allow us to pull data directly from the Atrex database from a mobile device, which would in turn do the actual SMS send.

That would prevent us from having to deal with a third party API, which is always the best option if possible.

Not much progress.  We've looked at several options and each one gives us some specific functionality but severely lacks in another area, or involve a pretty high licensing cost which goes against where we are trying to keep our pricing.  And then there is the fact that we are still working on separating some of the base Atrex functionality from the front end user interface without breaking everything, so we can provide an API that doesn't require the whole Atrex core to be duplicated.
Beyond this, we've been thrown a few curveballs recently that forced us into a whole lot of development that we had not planned on doing.
